Jace tossed and turned the rest of the night. He watched the sunrise through the half open curtains. He couldn’t believe Luca and Alex were dead. Two less vampires to worry about. Which explained why Luca had never come looking for him after killing Harper. That was good news for Jace. But thinking about Dac carrying around that demon inside of him sent chills down his spine. If he were to believe what Luca had told him, Dac wouldn’t be able to control the evil of the demon, which meant he only had one choice. Kill Dac.

Jace looked at the clock hanging on the wall opposite his bed. The time read 7:30. It was early, but Sarah might be awake if she was the one opening her shop this morning. Jace retrieved his phone from the bedside table and sent Sarah a message.

What are your plans today? Can we meet?

Within seconds she typed back. No plans. Let me know time and place.

Can we meet at your shop? I want to speak in private. ASAP.

No problem. Meet me there in an hour. I’ll send my assistant to get breakfast or something.

Great. See you soon. Jace placed his phone back on the table while he got showered and dressed. Within the hour he was heading out the door to meet Sarah.

He snuck quietly out the house careful not to wake Sophia. He didn’t want a repeat of yesterday. He would fill her in when he was ready. First, he wanted to speak with Sarah.

When he parked his car in front of Sarah’s shop, he could already see the lights on. Her assistant was walking out the door and down the corridor of the plaza, likely grabbing breakfast like Sarah had suggested.

Jace stepped inside. The familiar bells rung has he opened and closed the shop door. Sarah was standing behind the counter looking at something on her computer screen. She looked up at Jace, her face full of concern.

“Everything ok?” He asked.

“You tell me. You said it was urgent. What’s going on?”

“Right. Of course.” Jace shook his head. “Can we sit inside?” he asked pointing to the side room.

Sarah nodded and Jace followed behind her into the little side room. They both sat down on the small sofa against the wall.

“Had a couple of visitors last night,” Jace said immediately as he sat down. He then began to fill Sarah in on the details of his visit from Nikolai and Quentin.

Sarah sat quietly while Jace spoke, listening intently. When he finished, she said, “I don’t know of any cure other than death.”

“Then we kill him.”

“And what about the others? They will for sure come after us if we kill Dac.”

“We kill them too. All of them. I don’t care anymore. I just want my family safe and Sophia too. No one is safe with vampires running around.”

“Then we kill them,” Sarah agreed.

The shop’s doorbell chimed alerting them to the assistant’s return. The young woman’s chirpy voice called from the front of the store. “Breakfast’s here!” Sarah stood up from the sofa and exited the back room.
